DJ Apps for iPhone

It’s no scecre that the iPhone is probably the most popular and beloved new gadget of the last few years. Paired with the App Store, it’s a ripe platform for weird, cool, and otherwise unusual apps and other tools. Seeing the success of other music-based iPhone apps (iDrum, et al), a few very popular DJs have jumped on the bandwagon releasing apps specifically designed for the DJ.
First was everyone’s favorite Canadian progressive House champion, Deadmau5. Touch Mix release a Deadmau5 specific app in which you can remix some of his songs. It looks cool and it looks about as deep as this kind of app could get, complete with a tracklist, crossfader, volume control, and some nice FX (loop, filter, flanger, delay).
Following Deadmau5′ lead is German Trance giant Paul van Dyk, releasing an app that instead of enabling you to remix some of his original creations, is aimed at being a utility to DJs everywhere. Some of the features include a frequency analyzer, a dB analyzer, a built-in “torch” (or flashlight), a BPM counter, and more. Something tells me that live sound guys might enjoy the frequency/dB tools more than a DJ would. Check out the video where Paul van Dyk explains the app himself:
