First Look: Propellerhead Record (with video)

propellerhead_logo_1_

Surprise! Propellerhead is coming out with a DAW!

Dubbed “Record,” it is exactly what you think it is: a DAW with Reason-esque features, userbase, and from what the video suggests, a very similar layout.

Talking Points

  • First impression is “yuck.” That thing looks ugly. I’m willing to bet that it’s in very early beta mode, however.
  • It has three enviroments, only one you see in the video. Would be interested in hearing the other two!
  • Is Propellerhead too late? Has Logic and Live sucked up the electronic music userbase while programs like Pro Tools and Cubase have the recordists constingent? Garage Band is also pretty popular with newbies…
  • Would you be willing to switch? What if Record has crazy integration with Reason?
  • Will this be another DAW aimed at newbies? Or is it going to be aimed at loop-based musicians like Live?

I’d love to give this DAW a shot, though. I’ll post more as it comes available.

P.S. No official announcement has been made yet.

“…What if Record has crazy integration with Reason?”

Just saw this up & running at The Producers Conference in Hollywood. The phrase “crazy integration” is a HUGE understatement! It is basically the next iteration of Reason. Beta starts tomorrow. Watch the Props website for more info, coming really soon!

Ohhh, beta! I’d love to test this thing. I read a little more about this program today and it’s gotten me a little more excited. I’d really like to hear the time stretching in it.

If you have any new info, be sure to email us! I’m on the hunt for more video, pictures, or info…
